BusLogic BT-930 SCSI adapter

BusLogic BT-930 SCSI adapter

Post by Dimitris Pantzartz » Sat, 11 Nov 1995 04:00:00

I am trying to install linux on a P133 system (Micron Millenia Plus)
that has a BusLogic BT-930 ultra SCSI host adapter with a 2GB SCSI
Conner hard drive. The port IO address of the adapter is set by the
BIOS (PhoenixBIOS version 4.04) to 0xF800. Using
ramdisk buslogic=0xf800 complains of illegal address. I understand
that for buslogic cards the adresses supported are 0x130, 0x230, 0x330

Has anyone used this SCSI card with linux? Is there a way to change the
port IO address in the BIOS, and if yes will the
ramdisk buslogic=0xNNN will make recognize the adapter at boot?
Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks,

Dimitris.

The Flashpoint LT (BT-930) does not work with any of the existing Linux
SCSI drivers, including Leonard's new rewritten version, because it has a
totally different architecture.  It is Plug&Play, though, which is why you
have no control over setting the I/O port, etc.

My suggestion to the Linux community in general:  if you want a Linux
driver for the Flashpoint, don't pester Leonard -- write or fax to BusLogic
and state your case.  Address and phone numbers are in the FAQ and in at
least one of the HOWTO files.  Put it to the attention of the Flashpoint
Product Manager, at least.

Having successfully installed Linux on Micron hardware before, I was quite
surprised when I encountered this same problem with a new machine that was
delivered last week.

I've been in contact with Micron support, and I just fired off a message to
BusLogic as well.  I must say that I wasn't particularly happy with Micron's
response:

  Bart,
We can not be responsible for the operating system to be incompatible
  with your controller.

I'm now waffling between sending the entire system back and ordering another
one somewhere else, or just sending back the FlashPoint card.  If Micron
doesn't want business from anyone not running Win95, I'm not inclined to
argue with them.

We'll see what BusLogic has to say.
