Linux won't boot from SCSI HD

Linux won't boot from SCSI HD

Post by aha.. » Thu, 01 Jul 1999 04:00:00

My setup:
Tekram 390U2W host adaptor
IBM Ultrastar 9ES 9gig
Mandrake Linux 6.0
Celeron 300A (running at 464)
Abit BM6 mainboard
128 MB RAM

I've got the /boot partition, HD is SCSI ID 0, Adaptor is set to boot from 0

Yet, my system hangs at "Verifying DMI data" or something like that, can't
remember now.

I can boot from floppy.

I also have an IDE with Win98. At installtioon of Mandrake it asked
me where I'd like to put LILO. The two options were the MBR on the IDE,
or first sector of the SCSI, I chose the SCSI, because I'd like to keep
my OSs completely on separate HDs.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

ensure that SCSI support is *builtin* in your kernel - SCSI support as a
module won't work because of the hen & egg problem :-)

1. Linux Crashed, Now my HD has errors and linux won't boot

Oh My, I seem to be in a bit of trouble. While running that wonderfully
stable Netscape Composer Browser, my Linux system was completely hosed.
After the reboot fsk comes up and tells me

/dev/hda5:
Unattached inode 500060

/dev/hda5: unexpected inconsistency. run fsk MANUALLY.

then I'm dumped out of the startup script, and can do nothing. No shell
comes up to run the fsk script. So am I totally hosed? I sure hope hda5
wasn't my /home, else I just lost a lot of code... argh! weekly backups
are just not enough!

please help, I'm trapped using M$ windows until I get my linux to boot
up again. It's been since April that I've used windows... and it's
creepy.

Thanks
Jason
