Does anybody know the appropriate major and minor numbers for creating
the /dev/hdc* devices for a third EIDE hard disk?  Working on the
assumption that the major number would continue on the pattern of being
3, like hda* and hdb*, and on the assumption that each hard disk's minor
numbers differed by 64 (i.e. hda is 0, hdb is 64, hda1 is 1, hdb1 is 65),
I did some mknod's assigning hdc to major 3 and minor 128, with the
partitions likewise.  Is this correct?

my system has 2 ide controllers, and i have hdc set up like this:

22,0 for hdc
22,1 for hdc1
22,2 for hdc2
22,3 for hdc3

etc.

1. how can I create /dev/hdc etc?

I'm running 1.1.59 with two ide drives and I need to add another ide drive.
The controller card will deal with four disks.  /dev/hda and dev/hdb exist,
but not /dev/hdc  or d.

I remember something about mknod somewhere, but have forgot where and forgot
the details.  I presume I need to use mknod with the right major and minor
numbers, but .... what are these numbers ?  Also, can i just create
/dev/hdc or do i need to create all the other /dev/hdns as well ?

My understanding of what goes on here is limited so please spell it out.

Also, I'm having some trouble with my newsgroup access, so I'm sending this
from an account that I don't use much (because the phone costs too much here).
