You must add persist on the server.
server : pppd /dev/ttyS1 38400 passive 10.5.5.5: persist

Quote:>  client : pppd /dev/cua1 38400 10.5.5.4:10.10.10.5 -detach -ip

It should be OK :)

 Hi!

I would like to connect two pc via ppp *i don't need authentication*

 PC1 ---- PC2 *--- is the null modem cable*

 I've tried with

 server : pppd /dev/ttyS1 38400 passive 10.5.5.5:

 client : pppd /dev/cua1 38400 10.5.5.4:10.10.10.5 -detach -ip

but It works only if you run pppd on both machine simultanuosly.

Can someone help me? (via e-mail too, I don't read the NG often) :-)

 thanx

1. Login from a via serial line connected PC (no modem)

Hello,

after several hours of trying out and looking for infos that may help
I still didn't manage to use a normal PC as a terminal for a
Linux-system.
The PC was directly connected via a serial line, using kermit as
terminal-program (_no_ modem).

The Linux-System had one of the following lines in the inittab:

c6:6:respawn:/etc/getty 9600 ttyS0
c6:6:respawn:/usr/local/bin/mgetty -s 19200 -r ttyS0

Under both conditions it was no problem to get the /etc/issue and
the prompt for login onto the screen of the terminal-PC. But after
entering an user-name nothing happened. I found out that on the
Linux-system a process in the form of

        login mh     or     login root

has been started. After a certain time (let's say 2 minutes) and
pressing the returnkey the /etc/issue and the login-prompt were
given out again. No errormessage about the first attempt. Nothing.

Perhaps someone in the net knows the reason for this behaviour
and how to find a way to solve it. Thanks in advance

bye

Markus.
