DOSEMU at bootup question (dosemu newbie?)

Post by Donavan » Thu, 05 Feb 1998 04:00:00

Hello Everyone:

I'm trying to setup DOSEMU to automatically start a dos session and kick off front door in that dos session at bootup.  I have everything working except the bootup part.  I start the dos session with "dos -C -d" this works fine if I do it after I login as root, it binds to tty7 and I can interact with dosemu just fine.  But when it loads a bootup, I can not get it to bind to tty7 (so I can use front door or access the underlying BBS software).  It does start and run, frontdoor answers the phone etc.  I jus
t don't have any way to interact with the frontdoor mailer.

iThe real funny thing about this is that the first time I installed this everyting worked fine.  I suffered a complete disk failure and reinstalled everything and now I can not get it to work.

I'm running RH5.0, dosemu from RH5.0 distribtion, cyrix 200 cpu with all patches for the cyrix applied.

Any suggestions?  I've pulled out about 5 poiunds of hair so far...

Munch thanks,

.dn

: Hello Everyone:

: I'm trying to setup DOSEMU to automatically start a dos session and
:kick off front door in that dos session at bootup.  I have everything
:working except the bootup part.  I start the dos session with "dos -C
:-d" this works fine if I do it after I login as root, it binds to tty7
:and I can interact with dosemu just fine.  But when it loads a bootup, I
:can not get it to bind to tty7 (so I can use front door or access the
:underlying BBS software).  It does start and run, frontdoor answers the
:phone etc.  I jus : t don't have any way to interact with the frontdoor
:mailer.

You would use frontdoor mailer while you can gate your fido mail into
usenet format with ifmail and use tin? Strange people those fidonetters
are...

There is two options:
1. don't use frontdoor - get native Linux Fido or BBS software
Typically, running DOS communication software in DOSEMU unattended is
a bad idea, and running something which can give access to your system
as root is much worse. (But frontdoor can be password protected, as far
as I remember)

2. Use open command
 something like
 open -c 7 dos -C -d

in your rc.local
: iThe real funny thing about this is that the first time I installed
:this everyting worked fine.  I suffered a complete disk failure and
:reinstalled everything and now I can not get it to work.
Was this disk failure related with DOS program running unattended?

1. DOSEMU: Newbie question: can't lauch dosemu from dos floppy

: Hello,

: I've tried to run dosemu ( right out off the box) with
: # dos

: with a bootable/system DOS diskette and it gives me the following
:
: ERROR: can't get floppy parameter of /dev/fd0 (Interrupted system call)
: error exit: (5,0x0005) in_sigsegv: 0 ignore_segv: 0
: Not a good day to die!!!!!

: Version information: from RedHat Picasso release of April 96,
: Linux Kernel  2.0.7

: $Header: /usr/src/dosemu0.60/init/RCS/config.c,v 1.6 1995/05/06 16:26:13
: root Exp root $

dosemu0.60 and Linux 2.0.x are incompatible. Get a newer dosemu from
tsx-11.mit.edu and its mirrors: pub/linux/ALPHA/dosemu/Development
