Stuck in 640x480 mode

Post by Paul Cartie » Fri, 13 Sep 1996 04:00:00

Hello,
I have the RedHat version of Linux installed on my Dell
system which also as the ATI Expression card installed. (2MEG)

When I start X-Windows (startx) my screen is 640x480
and the viewport is set to 1024x768. I am looking for
at least 800x600 with the viewport also set to this.

How can I tell Linux my system supports far beyond the
        640x480 resolution??

Thanks to all that reply.

1. Resolution Stuck at 640x480

Well, here's my problem:
I am running Slackware on a Intel box with an SiS 6326
I set up XFree86 using xf86config.  No matter how I set up the
resolution order, it always uses 640x480.  This limits my productivity
to null because I don't have much desktop space.  I am using KDE.  Any
ideas?
