Why I need to mount my cdrom everytime?

Why I need to mount my cdrom everytime?

Post by Eric Cha » Wed, 11 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,
I know how to mount my cd-rom, but everytime when I restart my
machine, I need to mount it again to make it work.
That's all right, I can add the mounting command into my .cshrc file,
but is that means that everytime I create a new user, I have to edit
their .cshrc to make the cd-rom working for all my user?
Is there a better way to do it??
Thanks
Eric

Read the man on mount.  It will tell you how to set it up so any user can
mount the cd.  It should also tell you how to set it up so that it is
automatically mounted at boot up.

Add your cdrom mount point to /etc/fstab and make it
user-moutable.  Then anybody can mount the cd when they need to.

You can use automount to automatically mount CD's and floppies. Try man
automount for the details.

1. Do I need to mount the CD-ROM and Floppy Drive everytimes?

Hi,

I can mount both the CD-ROM and Floppy to the file system.  But, I
found that everytime I change the floppy disk or CD, I need to umount
them and then mount them again in order to read the new contents.
Is there any other way to work around it?

Another question is that when i put an audio CD in my CD-ROM, I
cannot mount it.  Does it mean I cannot play CD in Linux?

I am using RedHat 4.1.

I will appreciate if you can send me a E-mail since I don't want to
miss the replies :)

Thanks a lot.
