PCTEL modem works, now ttyS0 doesn't.

I compiled and installed pctel.o to get my PCTEL software modem working, but my terminal
on /dev/ttyS0 doesn't work while pctel.o is installed. Any ideas?

1. ttyS0 Mouse doesn't Work in X.

The strangest thing is happening.  My mouse works in a regular teminal
session but not in X-Windows.
I've got:

Slackware 3.5
Serial mouse plugged into Com1.

When I'm in a non-X terminal session I can move the mouse pointer
around.  Actually it looks like a rectangle.

Anyway,

But when I run XF86Setup, or startx, I can't move the pointer.
I've tried cua0 and ttyS0 when I run XF86Setup but no go.

Any help Please!!!
