Very Computer

I have just installed Linux ( 12 hours in hell ) and when I started the
system up
I recieved a error message: Attempt to remount root device as rw failed. I
was instructed to give the command: mount root=/dev/hda1/ rw   at the lilo
prompt.

When I boot with the above mount command I recieve error messages telling
me that the root partition has already been mounted read-write and I am
instructed to put the command  read-only  in the lilo setup file.  Now the
hostname is darkstar where above it was none.

Any suggestions?
