Hello everyone. I've been fighting non-stop with a new HP 920C connected on
a USB all night. I have a stock Mandrake 8.1 but upgraded the kernel to
2.4.17 (self-compiled) and have updated all the cups and LPRng things to
the following (most recent cooker):
artemis.hall(204)> rpm -qa | grep cups
qtcups-2.1-17mdk
cups-drivers-1.1-34mdk
libcups1-1.1.13-2mdk
cups-serial-1.1.13-2mdk
cups-common-1.1.13-2mdk
libqtcups2-2.1-17mdk
cups-1.1.13-2mdk
LPRng-3.8.4-2mdk
ghostscript is the stock one with hpijs 1.02.
I couldn't print for the life of me for ages but then just said "to hell
with it" and 777'd the /dev/usb/lp0 device. Suddenly I could cat text files
to the device and it worked.
I can also use gimp-print successfully under gimp:
artemis.hall(206)> versions gimp
gimp-data-extras-1.2.0-3mdk
gimpprint-4.1.99-16mdk
libgimpprint1-devel-4.1.99-16mdk
libgimp1.2_1-1.2.2-5mdk
gimp-1.2.2-6mdk
libgimpprint1-4.1.99-16mdk
The problem is that neither CUPS, LPRng, or the PDQ (stock 8.1 Mandrake)
seem to work. They all spew things out and they get there (via 'lpq' for
instance), but nothing else happens.
I get things like this:
artemis.hall(109)> lpq
Queue: no printable jobs in queue
Server: no server active
Status: job 'cfA785localhost.localdomain' removed at 00:09:43.767
Rank Owner/ID Class Job Files Size Time
done hall A 798 /etc/hosts 42 00:09:43
Can anyone help at all?
