I can't get ip forwarding to work with 2.0.33. there is 1 in
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward.
I can't imagine what can be wrong (masqurading works when compiled in).

1. Which controls packet forwarding - sysctl.conf or /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward ?
I'm having trouble getting a Linux RH 6.2 router to work properly, and I see
the following:
# Disables packet forwarding
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< ????????
# Enables source route verification
net.ipv4.conf.all.rp_filter = 1
# Disables automatic defragmentation (needed for masquerading, L

So, do I have forwarding enabled or not? I manually set
/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forwarding to '1', and this *seems* to enable
forwarding. However, I'm having some problems and I'm searching for straws
to grasp ;-).
