Hello,
On my HP Netserver LE with an Adaptec 2940, 2 HD SCSI (sda and
sdb) and 1 iomega Jaz SCSI (sdc), the kernel of  bootaic7xxx.img
diskette (RedHat 4) crash the partition table of my second HD (4 times
in 1 day).
        The message is :

scsi0: Target 1 underflow - Wanted at least 1024, got 512, residal SG
count 1.
scsi0: channel 0 : resetting for second half of retries.
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
aic7xxxx: (reset) target/channel 1/0
aic7xxxx: (reset_device) target/channel -1/A, active_scb 3
aic7xxxx: (match_scb) comparing target/channel -1/A to scb 0/A
aic7xxxx: (match_scb) comparing target/channel -1/A to scb 4/A
aic7xxxx: (match_scb) comparing target/channel -1/A to scb 1/A
aic7xxxx: (reset_channel) Resetting current channel A
aic7xxxx: (reset_channel) Channel reset, sequencer restarted

and then, nothing more

It's the same with bootaic7xxx-alt.img...

Have anybody seen this problem ?

Thanks

I had exactly the same problems with an Adaptec 2940 and a Jaz drive
combination.  I found out that what caused the panic in the driver
were bad sectors on the Jaz disk.  I formatted this Jaz disk under
Windows NT (it marked the sector as bad), and I used another disk for
Linux without problems.

I could not used the -c parameter of the mke2fs command because the
driver would panic without giviing the information about the bad
sectors back to the mke2fs.

So, in MYO you have two options:
1- Check for bad sectors in another OS with a GOOD program that will
find ALL your bad sectors on your disk and mark them bad.  Then make a
filesystem in Linux;
2- Use another disk for Linux;

I used the second solution and it worked fine for me.

UPGRADE to a newer kernel (compile it yourself).

This is my 'root' file system.  How do I go about marking these sectors
as bad?  so my machine doesn't have a shit fit.

How do I go about testing the rest of the disk (non distructively,
or at least, as nondistructively as possible)

please e-mail a reply

(that's not the only bad number though)

1. Installing Redhet 5.0 on a Iomega Jaz drive (SCSI Adaptec 2940)

I have successfully partioned and installed Redhat 5.0 on
the jaz drive "sda" but LILO jams up with the text "LI" on the
screen.

I have a new Intel Pentium II (Award Modular BIOS v4.51PG)
machine with the option to set SCSI up as the drive to boot
from first. I have also two IDE disks in the machine and if
I disable them LILO just gives me a repeating screen full
of "0 1 0 1......"

Please help me

Rolf
