Help: PPP Server routing problem

Post by Thomas Muehlhe » Wed, 15 Nov 1995 04:00:00

Hi there,

I finally managed how to set up ppp on server and client side of two
Linux boxes or ms-windows with trumpet (client) and Linux (ppp server).

The server has the address 204.140.249.4. After starting pppd I can see
the ppp0 interface with ifconfig:

ppp0      Link encap:Point-Point Protocol
          inet addr:204.140.249.4  P-t-P:204.140.249.140  Mask:255.255.255.0
          UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:1210 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
          TX packets:1183 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

204.140.249.1 is our morning star router who runs rip with gated.
Kernel support on the ppp server is enabled. But I can still not reach the
network form my ppp client. The routing table on the ppp-server looks like
this.

Kernel routing table
Destination     Gateway         Genmask         Flags MSS    Window Use Iface
204.140.249.140 *               255.255.255.255 UH    1436   0      235 ppp0
localnet        *               255.255.255.0   U     1436   0     4002 eth0
loopback        *               255.0.0.0       U     1936   0      222 lo
default         204.140.249.1   *               UG    1436   0       68 eth0

What am i missing ?

I tried to install a dummy module on the server, with the address of the
client (140) andI tried setting the arp entry with that number on the
Ethernet card of the server. Then the client can see the network and the
network can see the client. But this en

ds at the router. Why?

If anyone has set up Linux as a ppp-server or can give me advice how to set
the routing please contact me.

Thanks.

Thomy.

1. HELP! PPP dialup terminal server (routing problem?)

Hello! I've setup this configuration:

                LAN               modem-dialup
   Win95PC -------------- Linux ------------ <computer A via dial-up ppp>
ip:202.82.200.201       ip:202.82.200.200      assigned ip: 202.82.200.203

Win95PC can find the Linux and Computer A can find Linux.
However, Computer A & Win95PC cannot find each other!

I guess it should be routing problem, what should I do?
Please help me, thanks!

Best Regards,
Vincent Tam
