Lilo boot: loading linux crash

Lilo boot: loading linux crash

Post by Michael Mc Cab » Fri, 05 Mar 1999 04:00:00

Hi

Sorry to bring lilo up again, but I am having sever problems getting linux
to boot

I have partition magic running to boot win95 (which works) and linux SuSe
5.2 (kernel 2.0.34), when I select linux is gets as far as

Lilo boot:
loading linux

Then I get a large red box with error message

"Trend ChipAwayVirus has detected a boot virus on your hard disk. Operating
System is not supported"

I have tried different lilo.conf set-ups

boot=/dev/hda2            (also boot=/dev/hda)
map=/boot/map            (tried without map)
install=/boot/boot.b    (should I be using this???)
prompt
timeout=100
image=/vmlinuz        (should this be copied to /boot)
label=linux
root=/dev/hda2
read-only

I have put linux on the first partition of the HD and win on the second, I
have an extended partition holding three drives and the boot manager at the
end. When I boot from floppy I start linux from /dev/hda2

Am I doing something terribly wrong in the lilo.conf or could there be a
problem else where?

Thanks for taking the time

Michael

[snip]

Your bios probably scans for boot sector viruses. Try turning that
"feature" off...

1. Loading FreeBSD from LILO (or loading Linux on 2nd HD from Boot-Easy)

Hi,
I have 2 HDs, I have linux on the 2nd HD and I installed FreeBSD on the
first one to see how it looks like, but I'm having hard times with
loaders: in http://www.freebsd.org/tutorials/multios/multios2.html
is said that LILO can load FreeBSD but there is no explanation about how
to do that (nor there's this explanation on the LILO Howto). On the
other side the FreeBSD loader doesn't load Linux because is on the 2nd
HD...
Can someone explain me how to solve this problem?
Thanks,
 Roberto De Leo
