Question: Is anybody having problem with Adaptec 2842 ?

Post by Medi Montase » Sun, 29 Jan 1995 04:48:29

Hi,

I am using an Adaptec 2842 and am experiencing some problems installing.
My hardware config works under DOS. Then I did a low level format of
my two internal disks and began the Linux installation.

From the messages, it appears that my controller was detected, and my
disks are also detected. Then I get a kernel panic and a hang.

I have used alpha/scsi boot-disk with color144 root-disk.

Thanks

Medi
PS: could you please "email" me your comments as well.

I have an Adaptec 2842 and it works perfectly. Since you don't say which
kernel version you're using, I can't really offer any suggestions, but I can
tell you what setup I am using...

        Machine:        486DX2/66  16Mb RAM
        Kernel:         1.1.61
SCSI Config options:            SCSI Drives     Y
                                        Generic SCSI    Y
                                        Adaptec 284x    Y
                                        SCSI Debugging  Y

                                        All the other ones,     N
Drives:         Seagate ST31200N (or whatever it is)

I have had no problems yet - and installation was fairly hassle free (apart
from having to make up a drive geometry for the >1Gb drive).

I hope you can get this figured out..
        Daniel.

I have a similar problem with the 1542 controler looks like the SCSI
drivers are a bit*y. I have  had suggestions from quite a few people,
but none work. Try 16Mb or less RAM
