Intel Etherexpress PRO not detected in Red Hat 4.1

Post by Matt Wilhe » Thu, 06 Feb 1997 04:00:00

I downloaded the boot and support disks from Red Hat,
hoping to install their nice Linux distribution.

Unfortunately, Red Hat failed to recognize my Intel
Etherexpress Pro/100B card. The card works
correctly under Win95 (blech) and NT (semi-blech).
I looked at driver source for this card (on some
government site). I assume Red Hat used this
driver since Intel drivers are scarce. My PCI BIOS
reports the card with the correct manufacturer ID
and device ID.

One thing I noticed in the driver:
When checking for the card, the driver has a loop
that moves some value from 0 to 8 (exclusive).
I figure that this must be the # of the device on
the PCI system. My card reports as device #17.
As far as I can tell, there is no way I can set
the device to a value of 7 or less. I have an Award
4.51PG bios on my TYAN TOMCAT I motherboard.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt Wilhelm
