RH 5.2: DHCP Problem

RH 5.2: DHCP Problem

Post by Rajendra Sin » Mon, 22 Mar 1999 04:00:00

My machine has two NICs:  Once is connected to a LAN (eth0) and the other to a
cable MODEM (eth1).  I've configured eth1 to use DHCP and during boot it obtains
all the proper IP addresses.

If I run "nslookup" (with no parameters), I get:
Can't find server name for address DNS1:  No response from server.
Can't find server name for address DNS2:  No response from server.

Where "DNS1" and "DNS2" are the IP addresses for the primary and secondary DNS.

If I do:  ping DNS1 or ping DNS2, I get "ping: sendto: Network is unreachable"

I know the values for "DNS1" and "DNS2" are correct, because when I examine them
under Win 98 it's the same values I see in /etc/resolv.conf and

If I use "ifconfig", I see that there is a valid IP attached to eth1.  If I ping
that address, that works.

What is wrong with this?  PLEASE HELP!  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

1. DHCP problems in RH linux 5.2

i just installed RH linux 5.2 and everything worked great. DHCP passed
and i was able to access the Internet. i was a happy man...until i
rebooted my machine.

after the reboot i started seeing these error messages...

Using DHCP for eth0 ... failed

eth0: Host error, FIFO diagnostic register ffff.
eth0: Too much work in interrupt, status ffff. Temporarily disabling

why would DHCP work after the initial install then subsequently fail?
and does anyone have any suggestions? i've been pouring the DHCP
mini-howto and none of the suggestions there have helped.
