1. Boot disk crashes booting Red hat 5
I'm trying to get RH5.0 running on a Gateway 486/33, and I've run into
quite a few problems. The most major seems to be that the boot disk (created
by the RedHat 5.0 batch file on the computer in question), crashes after it
says "Booting the Kernel". The process is:
Loading: initrd.
vmlinuz....................
Uncompressing Linux.......
Booting the Kernel
and then it crashes, giving a few messages which scroll off my screen quickly,
followed by multiple:
alloc_area_pte: page already exists
errors, including a full stack dump. Following the dump is a series of:
Kfree of non-kmalloced memory: ......(then a series of hex addresses)
this is followed by a series of:
Idle task may not sleep
errors. Anyone have any ideas what's causing the boot to crash? I know the
machine is nothing great, but I've got a few tasks I'd lvoe to use Linux for,
without spending a $1000 to get a new machine.
Any help is appreciated!
