Very Computer

Hope you can all help.  I have loaded linux (slackware) onto my pc ..
but my x windows does not boot.  What could be the problem?  Also, i
am open to suggestions on setting up users (ie..what do they need and
how do i do it).  Finally,  how do i ensure that all files are mounted
and everything is properly working?   I can manipulate files and use
the editors, what else should i check for?
