Media Vision 3D sound card & Sony cu31a CDROM

I tried to be good and learn from the examples of other (honestly I did).
I read the FAQ and a couple of Web pages to boot, but I still can't get my
Fall '95 Slackware Linux to mount my Sony cu31a CDROM on the lilo boot cycle.

I managed to install the Slackware Linux software to my second hard
drive using "ramdisk cu31a=0x390,0,PAS".  So I thought I would be able
to edit /etc/lilo.config and add the line 'append = "cu31a=0x390,0,PAS"',
run lilo, reboot, and have my cdrom up and running.  Well, no such luck.
The darn thing still goes "Searching for CD ... No CD".

I am tring to boot from a floppy.  My C Drive is a DOS 6.2 drive.  My
D Drive is a Linux drive.  My Sony CD is connected to a Media Vision 3D
sound card.  The base address of the CD is 390.  Where did I go wrong?
I've tried to hold my mouth right for several late night hours.  I guess
the Linux gods are still not satisfied with my humble sacrifice of midnight
oil.  Any ideas?

Try this:

append="cdu31a=0x1f88,0,PAS

I had the same problem until I swapped the "340" for 1f88.

1. Medium/best sound card & CDROM drive?

Hi!

Is there a FAQ or could anybody offer me some opinions on what products
and features to look for when purchasing a sound board and CDROM drive for
use with my Linux system?  I want to be able to play video CDROM's, play
music CDROM's through my sound card, have stereo and the ability to digitally
process sounds, play with MIDI, take stereo input from a microphone, my stereo, etc.
I just poked around CompUSA last night and see that there is a wide
assortment of sound cards and CDROM's.  There isn't just one soundblaster
model, there seems to be 4-5!  I am interested in finding out what people
think would be good medium to high end solutions for what I want to do above,
or other things that would be cool that I am not privy too yet :-).  I have
a SCSI board (either my WD7000 or my AHA1542B) and can handle ISA/EISA/VESA
adapters. If I get good information back from folks, I will summarize and
post it or pass it along to the FAQ keeper on this, if there is one.

Thanks!!
