Did you overwrite the old source tree? I met this kind of problem before.
After I deleted or rename old source tree, everything is fine.

hi  matt
i think the prob is that your kernel is too big, and it bombs out in
the zImage compile. I had that happen to me, and some irc friends in
#linuxhelp on efnet, suggested i use make bzImage instead of make
zImage

worked for me;))

kernel-2.2 weird error - HELP! :)

Post by Opti » Thu, 11 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I was getting several errors similar to this for awhile (they all seemed
sort of random), it took me a while to realize that I had actually
uncompressed the 2.2.1 source into my symlink linux (which of course
pointed to 2.0.26 source).  Finally got it to compile by removing the
2.0.36 source first, then decompressing it again. worked like a charm.

1. Recompiled Kernel gives weird socket errors -- help?

I just recently recompiled my kernel to fix the sound card IRQ problem, and
it works just fine now (real fast :).  The problem is that when I boot up,
just after it says CMOS clock, there are two lines like:

socket: invalid argument
socket: invalid argument

And it continues just fine. Then when I log in, I cannot start X because it
cannot open listening sockets.

I have tried using another kernel distribution (1.1.70) but the same thing
happens. I have also tried with and without SysV IPC option, to no avail.

I am using the Fall'94 Plug'n'Play CD with linux version 1.1.47 and gcc
ver 2.5.8.

Anyone had a similar experience/ or know the problem here?

Any help greatly appreciated

Chris Ullrich
