Newbie Question !!!HELP

Post by Sridha » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I have installed Linux RH 5.2.
I had written down the disk partitions and have misplaced the list.
Is there any way I can get linux to print out a list of the disk partitions
and their names (/mnt; /opt)etc??
Thanks in advance

1. More newbie questions (help!)

I have a few newbie questions, now that I have Linux/XFree up and
running:

(1) For some reason, root doesn't seem to have full r/w privs to all
files in the system.  Is this normal?  I've had to use chmod to make
some of my config files editable by root.  On a related note, when I log
in with my user account, I don't have enough privs to even create a
directory in my /home!  This is causing a problem in X, since many of
the utils I'm trying to use can't create pref files.  Any ideas?  Where
do I set master privs for a user and root?

(2) I've got TkDesk running, but I'm also using AfterStep.  Since
AfterStep gives me an AppButton bar, how can I tell TkDesk not to open a
similar bar!?

(3) X is coming up in 8-bit depth, although XF86Setup added 15, 16, 24,
and 32 bit depth entries in my Device settings.  How do I activate these
depths?  I tried commenting out the 8- and 15-bit modes, to try to force
it into a 16-bit depth on startup, but startx then complained that the
"default" 8-bit mode could not be found.  I'm running under the Mach64
server.

(4) Anyone know where to get GIMP?  I found the master Berkeley site,
but it won't allow anon access.

Thanks for any help!
