pppd error: "serial line looped back"

Post by Stephen Mahe » Wed, 01 Feb 1995 03:48:39

My pppd will dial, "connect", and then fail.  The message in syslog
is "serial line appears to be looped back".

Any ideas?  Is my IP address in the pppd command line the culprit?

linux 1.1.59
internal Zoltrix 28.8 modem

Thanks,

1. pppd "Serial line looped back"

I'm running diald-0.14 and pppd-2.2.0 on my Linux 2.0.13 system with
success most of the time.  However, once in a while (several times a day),
the system gets into a state where the pppd dies immediately after
connecting, with the syslog message "Serial line looped back."  diald
reports disconnected after 5 seconds.  This repeats 4 or 5 times, and then
it will finally decide to connect.

What does "Serial line looped back" mean?  I've been trying to identify
whether it's only certain IP traffic that causes it, but I've not yet been
able to do so.

Any clues?
