mount failed: invalid argument

Post by doug4.. » Mon, 28 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I have a Dell Dimension XPS R450 - Intel Pentium II 450Mhz, 128 MB RAM,
12.3GB Hard Drive, Toshiba DVD-ROM, IDE Zip Drive, 31/2 Floppy Drive,
16 MB AGP STB Velocity 4400, Turtle Beach Montego A3D sound card. I am
totally new to linux so any answer would be appreciated. I have a box
copy of Mandrake's Complete Linux Operating System 6.0. I have one /
partition and a 128MB swap partition setup. When I reached the package
installment menu I changed nothing and choose "OK". The installation
stopped there saying "mount failed:invalid argument". I have no idea
what this means or how to fix it. Again I am completely new to Linux,
so if you answer please explain completely how to go about fixing this.
Thanks in advance.

mount failed: invalid argument

Some versions of linux don't handle partitions greater than 2 gigs well.
I'm not sure about your mandrake, but you can try making your / less
than 2 gigs and making your swap 127 instead of 128, just in case.  My
RedHat 5.0 has this problem, but newer versions are supposed to have it
fixed.

Mladen

mount failed: invalid argument

Is it possible you made the root partition too small?  I had the same
problem when I created separate partitions for /usr, /usr/local, /var and
/home.  So I took out those partitions, made the swap the maximum it could
be and left the rest of the  3.2GB for the install.  Can't say this is the
right solution, but it did work for me.

1. Problems installing on PB G3 - "Mount Failed - Invalid Argument"

Hi there

I hope that someone can help me here as I am getting very frustrated....

I have a PB G3/300/192 ram/8G HD.

I recently received a CD copy of Release 4 and followed the instructions on
installing.  The partitioning was easy but when I start to install the
components I keep getting the error message:

"Mount Failed - Invalid Arguement"

If anyone can help me with this problem I would be most grateful (and I'll
save some hair in the process!!)

Many thanks
Nigel
