I am looking for some help with sendmail configuration. I have looked over
a lot of the documentation that is in the /usr/doc and usr/src/sendmail as
well as all of the LDP stuff. This is what appears to be happening:
0- This is a small LAN running TCP/IP with a class C license for the
Internet. It is not connected yet, mostly because I don't have this
sendmail.cf file set right.
1- named (BIND) is configured on the machine ('linux1.mydomain.ca') to
be the primary authoritative nameserver for 'mydomain.ca'. This is also the
machine that is to receive email for the domain. The MX record for the
domain points to 'linux1.mydomain.ca', as listed in 'named.hosts'.
2- The sendmail.cf file was built using the /usr/src/sendmail/cf/*.mc files.
It contains the (CS.hidden) and (MASQUERADING_AS) as listed in the docs.
Translation entrys are listed in one of the rulesets to adjust addresses
3- When composing a message in pine, the From: field shows the proper
4- Messages coming in for local delievery will be delievered if the machine
name is there ('linux1.mydomain.ca'), but not if it is just the domain
name ('mydomain.ca'). In the latter case, there would be a message from the
MAILER-DAEMON saying that there is a 500 level error.
MX record for mydomain.ca, points back to 'linux1.mydomain.ca'
or something like that.
It would seem that the masquerading is only half functional. Outgoing
messages addressed to those addresses do not process.
How do you get this masquerading to work?
Thanks for your time...
P.S. could you please respond via email, our news server only spools
about 10 minutes of news at a time.
