How far did you came with the SuSE boot disk?
In case you just did not get the right idea:
 - find out what kind of SCSI controller you have, if you can.
 - enter the menu "load kernel modules" --> "load scsi driver" or so.
 - select the right module and watch what happens when it loads.
(if you cannot find out what scsi driver you have, try loading all
of them one by one until one of them loads successfully AND FINDS
YOUR HARDWARE ! Perhaps you need the 'modules'-floppy, too.)
If that works, go back and continue with "Installation from CD", the
system now tries to mount the CD, if that fails, well come back here :-)

hope this helps

1. "text install" from floppy (SuSE 6.4) needed

I am trying to install SuSE 6.4 on an older Intel P90 PC.
It can't boot from the CD-ROM, so I need to use a floppy disk.

The video mode install for YaST1 and YaST2 do not work correctly -
the refresh rate is all wrong, and the screen is completely
un-readable.

So, I'd like to use the text installation mode mentioned in the
SuSE book (the book in the distribution, at:
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/distributions/suse/6.4/docu/book-en.pdf).

The book specifies to hold down the CNTL key when the "boot: "
prompt appears.

The problem is that there's no "boot: " prompt with the floppy
disk installation!  This seems to work only for a bootable
CD-ROM.  I've tried all of the disk images in the 6.4 distribution,
and they all get to the same point.  The initial splash screen
graphic from SuSE ("have a lot of fun") displays, but right afterwards
the video settings are changed and the screen become unreadable.

  - Do you know how to get to "text" installation mode from a boot
        floppy disk?

  - Is there another way to control the video refresh rate etc. from
the boot floppy disk, when I can't boot from CD?

Thanks for any ideas.  I've installed SuSE successfully on other
computers, but this older one is problematic.  I've installed
RedHat on it with no troubles, because their "text mode" is accessible
from the boot floppy prompt.  (Otherwise, I have the same problem
with their graphical installation.)
