fcntl_setlk() called... broken flock() emulation

Post by Don Mart » Mon, 29 Apr 1996 04:00:00

Full message, when logging in, is:

fcntl_setlk() called by process 408 with broken flock()
emulation

where process 408, as given by
        # ps
is:

        408 pR4 4 N  0:00 -tcsh

When logging out, # ps gives:

        84 s20 8 N   0:00 /usr/agetty 38400 tty3 linux

Also,
        # ps -aux
gives a floating exception, but
        # ps
works fine.

I am using 1.3.95, with a 3com 3c590 Combo NIC, adaptec 2940,
scsi cdrom, on a P120.

I have been getting this message whenever I logout, during
the initial boot-up, and upon logging on to any virtual
terminal.

This follows a new compilation of the kernel, and it is a test
kernel (1.3.95). Is there something I am doing wrong? I have
compiled about twenty kernels, from 1.1.58, to 1.2.13, and
recently, 1.3.85, and now this, and most work fine. (I have had
a few kernel panics, but simply recompile with slightly
different options, and the problem disappears.)

1. fcntl_setlk() called...w/ broken flock() emulation

Hello,

I just upgraded a caldera installation (kernel version 1.2.13) to version
1.99.12 (aka pre 2.0.12).  I was able to successfully make and compile the
kernel, and it does boot.  However a number of processes return the above
error, including login (a sample of dmesg is listed below).

partial output of dmesg:

Partition check:
 sda: sda1 sda2 sda3
VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
Adding Swap: 17404k swap-space
fcntl_setlk() called by process 71 (crond) with broken flock() emulation
fcntl_setlk() called by process 130 (lpd) with broken flock() emulation
fcntl_setlk() called by process 134 (lpd) with broken flock() emulation
fcntl_setlk() called by process 149 (login) with broken flock() emulation
fcntl_setlk() called by process 151 (login) with broken flock() emulation

Of note, the version of gcc in use is 2.7.0.

Question:
What exactly is this error refering to?  (does it have something do to with
floating-point, or co-processor, emulation -- which I purposely left out in
the kernel re-compile)?

Or, did I leave something out (i.e. have I missed something in the upgrade
process)?

Thanks in advance for your help.
