RH 5.1 kernel has built in FAT32 support?

Post by Changmock Shi » Fri, 11 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Hi all,

Does the kernel included in RH5.1 support FAT 32 by defaults?

If not, what should I do change the kernel to support FAT 32? Is there
any documents available for this?

Thanks.

Yes. Just use msdos (for 8.3 filenames) or vfat (for long filenames)
same as for FAT16.

1. RedHat 5.1 kernel doesn't support mounting CD_ROMs or FAT32?

When I tried to mount the Win98 Fat32 partition, by typing:

        mount /dev/hda1 /mnt -t vfat, or
        mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt,

RedHat 5.1 Linux returns: fs type vfat not supported by kernel.

When I tried to mount a CD-ROM, by typing:

        mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom,

RedHat 5.1 Linux returns: fs type iso9660 not supported by kernel.
