Linux & WinNT & Netware ?

Post by Paul Usz » Fri, 06 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Hello.

I'm hoping to try out some system administration techniques from home,
and intend to install Windows NT 4 with Redhat Linux 4 _and_ Novell
Netware 4!  Is this possible ?

I think that it is if set up on independant partitions.  Using an OS
loader isn't important, I'm quite prepared to use something like DOS
FDISK or Partition Magic.  And I'm not looking for any particular
sharing/co-operation between the OS's, but to get experience of all of
them.  Does anyone think that this won't work?

Thanks in advance.

Bye.

Im not sure about Netware.  But i am running NT 4.0 server, red hat
4.1, Dos, win95.  And they are all working
NT has a nice boot manager.  But in order to boot to linuz i still
need to do it with a bootup floppy.  o big deal.  It doesnt load
anything from the floppy, except "look here instead of here" :) so it
doesnt slow me down at all.

I see sysadmining aplenty in your future :)

Take a look at bootpart, which should be findable at:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/gvollant/bootpart.htm

It has some tools which will allow you to add Linux to the NT boot loader.

1. Linux & Netware & Pathworks & WinNT

In our school we are using different types of and networks: IPX and
TCP/IP. The servers and clients are using Netware/MS-DOS, Linux, Digital
UNIX, Pathworks/MS-DOS.  Every user has one netware account, one
pathworks account, one UNIX account, accounts on Linux computers and a
lot of home directories: one netware home directory, one Digital UNIX
home directory etc.

We want to use a Linux host on which all user accounts and home
directories are saved. A user should be able to use the same home
directory and password at all clients.

Do you have some experience with this? Is it possible to do this using
SAMBA, MARS_NWE and NIS? Are there any helpful tools?
