Upgrading to Red Hat 6.0

Upgrading to Red Hat 6.0

Post by Guinevere Orvi » Fri, 30 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I am currently running Red Hat 5.1, and I want to upgrade to 6.0. I have a
CD to install from, but want to know of anything I should concern myself
with before I do the install. Mainly, what configuration files will be
replaced, so that DNS, apache, network configuration all remain in proper
working condition. When I put 5 on the machine, I remember there was an
Upgrade option.. will selecting this preserve my settings?

Thank you.

Upgrading to Red Hat 6.0

I did something like that a while back when I upgraded from 5.1 to 5.2 and a
lot of my settings were hosed

I would backup all the conf files that you want in another directory before
the upgrade.  This is going to be the safest best.

1. Networking problems caused by upgrade to Red Hat 6.0

I recently upgraded from Redhat 5.2 to Redhat 6.0 and have experienced

have an SMC EtherEZ (8416) ISA card that was functioning properly under
RH 5.2.  After upgrading, my connection no longer works.  I have tried
going through the steps I used to configure my connection under RH 5.2.

pnpdump > intel.conf

modify IRQ and BASE (IRQ is 10 and BASE is 0x0240)
uncomment necessary lines

isapnp intel.conf

Executing the isapnp command gives me the following errors:

Fatal resource conflict allocating IRQ10 (see /proc/interrupts)
Fatal error occured executing requrest 'IRQ 10' --- further action
aborted

I checked the /proc/interrupts file to make sure that  IRQ 10 is not
being used

/proc/ioports tells me that the address 0x0240 is the correct address

How do I fix this problem?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
John
