Say it ain't so...

Tell me it ain't so.  Just got Samba running.  RH 7 install.  I just had to
add users to the samba passwd list in order to prevent getting "Can't make
IPC$ Connection supply password"  sort of message.

I got this fix off the samba docs.

Someone tell me that I won't have to do this for all 700 students?!  There
is no way to let samba see that the user name and passwd that the Win98
client used is the same as in the passwd file and let them in?

Thanks for any thoughts on this

Ouch. I can't really see a way of getting around that... maybe some sort
of Perl or shell script could be written to do it if you had all their
information in a nice neat formatted file...

If you installed all of RH7 you should have a utility called webmin
available to you. Just open your webbrowser and use
https://localhost:10000 and your root un and pw and under the network tab
there is a section for samba. There is a utility there to convert unix
users to samba users. Hope that helps.

1. applixware: say it ain't so...

|I'm thinking of getting applixware.  I've read the box
|and the iformation at www.redhat.com but haven't
|seen the answer to this question.  Can applixware
|import and export ms-word and ms-excel files?
|I figure the reason I haven't seen anything
|about this is the answer is no.
|
|I don't really care, but my boss does.
|

According to my Applix manual ( v4.3 ) it will import M$Word v4.0 ( DOS )
and v2.0, v6.0 ( M$Word for Windows ) & v5.1 ( Macintosh )

As for spreadsheets, it can import: WKS, WK1, WK3, WK4, XLS 3.0, XLS 4.0,
XLS 5.0, XLS 7.0, SYLK, DIF, XDIF, CSV, ASCII

Hope this helps.
