Synchronize Files Between Two Linux Machines

Synchronize Files Between Two Linux Machines

Post by smarcu » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Anyone know of software which will synchronize directories between two
Linux machines on a network or across the internet?  How about Windows
machines or Linux to Windows??

I need to have users make changes at either machine and have the changes
propogate to the other machine so that in time both machines will become
identical (at least the directories specified).

Thanks in advance.  Please email me your response.

Did you try: "man rsync" ?

I'd go with nfs.  Check out the man pages for nfsd, mountd, and portmap.
Another option would be rsync.

1. Need to synchronize password files on multiple machines

I have four Unix servers with mildly divergent password files and
approximately eight NFS clients of those servers. I want to create one
password file from the four existing files and change the ownership on
all the files on all twelve machines to reflect the changed UIDs.

I am sure this has been done before. Has anyone automated this in a
portable fashion? Does anyone have any hints, warnings, etc? Any input would
be most welcome.
