1. ping hangs after using dip to connect to tia
I have set up tia in a SunOS Unix shell account, and it works fine
with trumpet under Windows and DOS and OS/2; however, I have been
trying unsuccessfully to use dip 3.3.7 under Linux 1.0.
I can use dip to dial the host, start tia, and go into SLIP mode,
after which it returns me to the Linux shell prompt.
I then try the ping command to the SunOS gateway address, or any
other address to which it can connect, and the ping command hangs.
I can go to another Linux virtual terminal and ping 127.0.0.1
(the loopback address), and ping works fine.
I have so far had to shutdown the Linux system to hang up the modem
and terminate the connection.
I am using 192.0.2.1 (suggested by tia) as the host address for Linux,
and have put it into any applicable files in /etc/ (I originally
installed the Linux system using 127.0.0.1 as the host address.)
Anyone have any ideas? I haven't yet tried dip and SLIP under Linux
with a static or dynamic SLIP account, so the problem may not necessarily
be dip. I am about to start putting messages into the source code
and recompiling to see what's going on. I somehow doubt doing that
to dip will help, since the problem doesn't show up until ping
(or actually any other thing, such as ftp) is tried.
Maybe I am missing something in the Linux host setup.
