I'm taking my first steps in the worls of Linux and I've already hit a snag.
Basically the RH5.0 install progresses to the point where it asks my
installation method. I select local CDROM drive and choose ncr53c8xx (I have a
Diamond Fireport 40) and elect to autoprobe. The installation script scans the
SCSI bus, *appears* to find the CDROM drive and starts to initialise it.
However, it then states that it can't mount the CDROM drive because it is not a
block device. I previously managed fine with the same SCSI card and a Plextor
12/20 CDROM drive. Can anyone shed some light on this?
My details are:
Asus TX97-E motherboard
Intel Pentium 200 MMX CPU oc'ed to 225 (75x3)
64 MB SDRAM
Diamond Fireport 40 UWSCSI card
IBM Ultrastar 2ES 4.33 GB UWSCSI
Plextor Ultraplex 32x CDROM drive USCSI (block jumper is currently set)
The SCSI bus is set up as follows:
HDD: Device 0
Termination on
Bus width 16 bit
Sync data transfer 40 Mb/s
Disconnect on
Parity on
Scan for LUNs off
Timeout 10s
CDROM: Device 1
Termination on
Bus width 16bit
Sync data transfer 20 Mb/s
Disconnect on
Parity on
Scan for LUNs off
Timeout 10s
Fireport: Device 7
I've also got the following expansion cards:
Diamond Stealth II S220
SBAWE 32 soundcard
Yamaha SW60XG MIDI card
Cheers.
