Is it ok to delete some of /usr/X11R6/share

Is it ok to delete some of /usr/X11R6/share

Hello,

I'm running XFree86 3.3.1, and have noticed that /usr/X11R6/share duplicates
alot of files.  Mainly, /usr/X11R6/share/include/X11 is virtually identicle to
/usr/X11R6/include/X11.  Each has a few files the other does not.  I was
wondering if it would be OK to delete the share/include directory, and make
include a link to /usr/X11R6/include instead.  share/include isn't even in
the search path for include files.  Also, the share/fonts directory just
contains duplicates, would it be safe to kill it as well.  Then there is the
share/man directory, killable?

None of these appear to be under any use.  What about the share/xkb, is
there a non-shared version laying around anywhere else?

What exactly is the point of the 'share' directory?  I'm quite desperate for
room (97% full), and am on an rm rampage :)

Please email me if possible since I do not frequent this group.

Are you sure these aren't symbolic links to each other? if not and the diff
of the files is the same you might be able to get away with making symbolic
links  and deleting some. I wouldnt probably bother unless you are extremely
straped for space. Its probabaly not worth mucking up X, but its your call.

1. /usr/X11R6/ deleted, what to do?

: Hallo,,

: while setting a link from X11 to X11R6 I made a mistake
: and deleted the /usr/X11R6/ directory. Now I don't have
: any possibility to start up X. Can I reinstall this
: directory without installing the whole system? If yes, how
: do I do it?

You can simply install X11 once more. You'll need to use /stand/sysinstall.

a) Select '6. Custom'.
b) '5. Media' this the place where you can choose between FTP, CDROM, ...
   installation.
c) '4. Distribution'
   c1) '8. Custom.'
c2) 'XFree86' <-- Select just this item and leave the menu twice.
d) '6. Commit'

And there you've got it done ;-) Your /usr/X11R6 subdirectory should
appear. You won't even lose XF86Config since it's in /etc and is not
modified by sysinstall.
