Configuring apps with xfm

How do I configure apps using xfm?

1. xfm-apps is read only for root, too!

Linux users!

I there something screwy with my xfm?  I downloaded the version which comes
with the Slackware distribution Linux v.1.2.8 from tsx-11, and am in the
process of configuring everything.  Much to my chagrin, i find the .xfm/* files
are --r--r--r-!  Does this mean i can't put my favorite apps (Andrew) and
printers in that window?  How do i get rid of them if i can't even write to
them as root?
