Red Hat 5.2 and ATI 3d RAGE PRO AGP 2x X86 problem

Red Hat 5.2 and ATI 3d RAGE PRO AGP 2x X86 problem

Post by Konstantinos Euripides Vorloo » Wed, 11 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi,

I am trying to setup the X server on a pentium with a
4MB ATI 3d RAGE Pro VGA card (2x) and I cannot find the *y
parameters (as always). Tried the Mach64 but doesn't work.
The monitor manual says that upports horizontal freq's 30-54
and vertical 50-120...

Any ideas ?linux.redhat.misc

Red Hat 5.2 and ATI 3d RAGE PRO AGP 2x X86 problem

Post by Christiaan Schaak » Thu, 12 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I have an ATI RAGE 3D Pro Turbo (2x agp) working on XFree386. The trick is,
you must first install the XFree86 3.3.2.3 Mag64 server
(ftp://www.xfree86.org). This server works with the ATI card. I've upgraded
my complete xfree server to version 3.3.2 (on redhat 5.0) and used X86Setup
(the new graphics setup program's) and the server worked. I didn't need to
change any config file.

There is a complete and usefull decription on how to update the xfree server
on the xfree web site.

Good luck,

Christiaan Schaake.

1. Setting up Red Hat 5.2 and ATI Xpert98 - 3D Rage Pro

The ATI card is working pretty well for me, but there's one
problem: I can't get the image to fill the screen horizontally.
The horizontal stretch setting (the one with the <---> icon
on the monitor's setup program) is at it's near it's maximum.
If I go all the way to the maximum, the image gets wider in
places -- both edges are wavy.  (The monitor works fine
on a WIndows 98 box with an STB nVidia 8MB card.)

Any ideas? Should I consider a different card? Maybe swap
with the STB card?
