How to enable file lock on NFS filesystem?

Post by Johnny E » Tue, 24 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Hi folks
I have RH5 as NFS server, exported to SUN and HP.
I try to lock files on the nfs file system and I get error messsage that it
is not possible.
can this be solved?
my exports file looks like:
/share *(rw,no_root_squash)

any idea?
TIA,
Johnny E.

I may very well be wrong, but I don't think NFS implements file locking
at all.

My understanding is that it does not, but that there are various hacks
using dotfile, or a daemon called lockd that can be used to work around
this. I know nothing about them however, just that when mail is delivered
and/or read over NFS it becomes important to implement file locking.
