ATI Rage 3D Pro problem on Compaq Presario PC

I have a Compaq Presario 4824, P233 II, 32 Meg, 6.5G HD, ATI 3D Rage Pro
AGP 2X Video (Chip: 215R3BUA22) on the Motherboard, and Compaq 1725
monitor.  Having trouble getting Xserver to work properly using the
Mach64 server. I have Redhat Linux 5.0, and have updated the XFree86
Xserver S/W to 3.3.2.2.

Under XFree86 3.3.1 using 'xf86config', I always got a 'twm' screen with
3 menus when I click on the desktop - like 3 screens were overlapped.  I
could drag the display over enough to see the xterm window, and could
execute commands in it.  I did get the VG16 server to work properly (but
only by using Xconfigurator), and only for 640x480.

Under 3.3.2.2, I only get errors, this one in particular ->

System: '/usr/X11R6/lib/xkb/xkbcomp -w 1 -R/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb -xkm
-m us -em1 "The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports: "-emp ">"
eml "Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the Xserver" keymap/xfree86
compiled/xfree86 xkm'
twm: can't resolve symbol '__xstat'

Does the ATI Rage Pro have a RAMDAC?  which is the best to choose?  Will
it hurt anything (monitor or video) to try them all?  Does anyone have
the dot clock settings?

What setting did you use to get it working?   Does X fire up at all?   I
have a similar setup that I  have not been able to get going at all.
Please let me know or email me the settings.

Thank you
