Does Linux support a Sony CD-ROM hooked into a Pro AudioSpectrum 16
(non-SCSI, I think) card?
How can I tell if it is a SCSI sound card or non-SCSI?

Yes, Linux will support this combination. I am running exactly
this. To make it work I had to roll my own kernel for the Slackware
distribution with kernel 1.1.59. After building the kernel, run the
reconfig option (if you are using slackware), and everything should work
easy as pie.

The way I could tell my PAS-16 had a SCSI port was by checking
out the features list on the outside of the box, when I saw it in the
Wal-Mart.  That and the 50 pin, dual in-line connector at one end
of the card. :)
Not only have I gotten a Sony 55 CDROM to work with the sound
card, it's the only way the CDROM would work in my sys.  I have an IDE
controller, and two IDE drives, so when the BIOS scans for disk-controllers
that it might want to boot from, the IDE always wins.  Even if I have my
Adaptec 1515 SCSI controller plugged in.  But both msdog and Linux will
see the SCSI controller on the PAS16, so I yanked the Adaptec and used
the sound card's SCSI.  Wonder-bar!   Send email if you need more details.

Yes it should.  I have a ProAudioSpectrum 16 in my pc and the interface is
SCSI.  I have a MediaVision SCSI CD-ROM attached to mine.

I think what he is really asking is:  Does Linux support a Sony CD-ROM hooked
into the Sony-CD interface version of a Pro Audio Spectrum 16 (yes, this IS
non-SCSI) card?

I don't know.  Just thought I would clarify for GrimJack.

There are Sony CD drives out there attached to PAS16s that are definitely
not SCSI; I have one myself.  The drive is a Sony CDU-33A and it came in
a MediaVision MV2000 multimedia upgrade kit.

(I too would like to know whether they'll work under Linux.
