help newbie with mouse/RH5.1

Post by Barrett Cervenk » Thu, 15 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I installed RH5.1 with no problem but I can't get the mouse working in
XF86. It's a PS/2 Logitech Mouseman and I've tried every combination in
the xf86config file. I think the problem lies in the fact that it's a
ps/2 mouse and /dev/mouse is a symbolic link to /dev/cua0 which is com1,
right?  What is the correct port that it should be pointing to?

  You can try the following:
Login as root.
cd to the /dev directory.
rm modem
ln -s psaux modem

This will create the link to the ps2 port.

I think that this should be mouse instead of modem.

cd /dev
rm mouse
ln -s /dev/psaux mouse

Also make sure that when you run the kernel config
that you have the PS/2 mouse support enabled before
you do this.  I recently had to do the same thing
because I needed to enable 2 modems on my PC and
I only had external modems available to me.  So I got
a PS/2 mouse and replaced my serial mouse.

Hope this helps.
