Does anyone know what this means:

In my syslog (/var/log/messages) over and over I get lines like this:

Jan  4 11:08:35 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-111
Jan  4 11:12:54 garage last message repeated 3 times
Jan  4 11:13:55 garage last message repeated 21 times
Jan  4 11:15:42 garage last message repeated 57 times
Jan  4 11:16:44 garage last message repeated 15 times
Jan  4 11:17:47 garage last message repeated 9 times
Jan  4 11:31:53 garage last message repeated 3 times
Jan  4 11:34:18 garage last message repeated 6 times
Jan  4 11:36:40 garage last message repeated 9 times
Jan  4 11:36:40 garage last message repeated 2 times

Similarly, I also get:
Jan  4 10:00:16 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:03:16 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:06:16 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:09:17 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:12:17 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:15:17 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:18:18 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:21:18 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116
Jan  4 10:24:18 garage modprobe: can't locate module char-major-116

Here's the specs:

System:
        PII 266, 64MB, 4.3G IDE
RedHat 5.2 (Apollo) plus (nearly) all updates
        Linux kernel 2.0.36
Running httpd, nfs, and samba for about 40 users.
Also acting as a masquerading IP-gateway (using ipfwadm)

/etc/conf.modules:
        alias eth0 3c59x

output of 'lsmod':
        Module         Pages    Used by
        ncpfs              6            1
        ip_masq_ftp        1            0
        3c59x              5            2 (autoclean)
        ipx                3            4 (autoclean)

Any ideas of where this is coming from would be helpful.  Please
respond via email.

Thanks,

Slugg

1. Strange smp error message with 2.1.111

I installed the 2.1.111 SMP Kernel on my 2 Pentium 166MMX PC. Now I have this
error message when I boot the system:

Jul 27 18:32:05 hippo kernel: VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
Jul 27 18:32:05 hippo kernel: Freeing unused kernel memory: 40k freed
Jul 27 18:32:05 hippo kernel: stuck on smp_invalidate_needed IPI wait (CPU#1)
Jul 27 18:32:05 hippo last message repeated 18 times
Jul 27 18:32:05 hippo kernel: Adding Swap: 130748k swap-space (priority -1)

I saw this error a first time with the 2.1.110 kernel.
What is the meaning of this error?

Regards
Andy
