Could anybody be so kind to share his configuration files (except
the passwords) with me?

I've been looking for this, too.  I've gotten some ambiguous assistance,
but I think the problem is a terminology gap (actually there was a mismatch
between the number of terms for concepts and the number of concepts).

Some explicit concrete examples might help to be sure there is an
understanding of what things are to be filled in with something else
and what things are to be filled in with constants.  Also, for the
passwords in the concrete examples, do put passwords in, but make
them demo passwords only, e.g. "pass1", "pass2", etc.  That way if
there are two different places where the same password needs to be
put (e.g. configurations on separate peer machines that are expected
to communicate) then use the SAME demo password.  This helps assure
the correct understanding.

I did try typing a few configuration files myself.  Nothing happened.
It just sat there.  No error messages, no connections, nothing.

1. pppd - PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP, MS-CHAP-v2 protocol negotiation

We have clients connecting to pppd 2.4.2b1.
Clients are able to connect using PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP, MS-CHAP-v2 if
the pppd configuration is set up to require a specific protocol, eg:

If we change /etc/ppp/options to not request a specific protocol,
clients can only connect using PAP or MS-CHAP-V2. Client trying to
connect through CHAP or MS-CHAP fail and Pppd logs the error "peer
refused to authenticate: terminating link"

pppd configuration:

We'd like our clients to be able to connect using PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP
or MS-CHAP-v2, the protocol being negotiated by server and client...

I suppose it's a pppd configuration issue; any help is highly
