Just went thru the same thing here with an 855. The printing HOWTO has
a typo in it (at least my copy). The last line should read:
echo -ne "\f" NOT echo -ne "f
Also, on the sed line be sure you type in a ctrl-M, not a ^ and an M.
In vi, type ctrl-V then ctrl-M. Be sure that the filter
file is executable. Make sure the continuation \ at the end of the line in
printcap is the last character in the line (not followed by whitespace).
Finally, cycle the power on the printer after each unsuccessful attempt.
I found that using an incorrect filter sent the printer off
into never never land and then even a correct filter wouldn't work.
Now I have a question: Is there supposed to be an archive somewhere of
printer filters for Linux supported printers? The simple filter in the
PrintingHOWTO doesn't reverse the order of the pages, so I at least need
to add that capability for my Deskject 855C. This must exist somewhere.
