I can't get RH4.0 w/2.0.18 to recognize my compaq notebooks 40M of RAM. It
only sees 16M. I have recompiled the kernel to insure the limit to 16M flag is
not set. Anyone have any ideas?

You may need to specify the amount of memory to the kernel at boot time
from LILO.
To do this try typeing

linux = "mem=40M"

at the LILO prompt. If it works you can add

mem=40M

to the append line in your /etc/lilo.conf and run lilo:

append = "mem=40M"
