Warning: Red Hat 6.0 upgrade: mistake in RH Installation Guide

Post by Donald C. Linds » Mon, 24 May 1999 04:00:00

When I checked Red Hat's web pages, the Installation Guide said that
upgrading to Red Hat 6.0 should be followed by a hand edit of

        /etc/X11/XF86Config

changing all the FontPath lines to

        FontPath "tcp/localhost:7100"

Red Hat's web page has a FAQ, and one entry says to instead use

        FontPath   "unix/-1"

They're both wrong. The correct line, as generated by Xconfigurator, is

        FontPath   "unix/:-1"

1. Warning: Red Hat 6.0 Upgrade: changed "locate"

Red Hat 5.1 and 5.2 suggested that the database for "locate" is
updated by doing

        /etc/cron.daily/updatedb.cron

The Red Hat 6.0 Installation Guide doesn't mention it, but you now do

        /usr/bin/updatedb

(and you apparently should use "slocate", although "locate" still works)
