Hello
I am using RH 6.0 with kernel 2.2.5. In order to upgrade the kernel, I
decided to apply patches to the kernel. I started from "patch-2.2.6.gz"
using "gunzip -c patch-2.2.6.gz | patch -p0" command. During the
patching process the system started to ask me something like "not able
to find the file. Would you like to use -R option?". It seemed the
default answer to the question was "no" since there was [n] bracket
next to the question. However, I kept answering "y" for no sound
reason. The result was a list of ".rej" files under /usr/src/linux
directry as below:
/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/defconfig.rej
/usr/src/linux/drivers/block/genhd.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/NCR5380.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/pci2000.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/pci2220i.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/drivers/sound/es1371.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/fs/nfsd/nfs3proc.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/fs/nfsd/nfsproc.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/fs/ntfs/attr.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/fs/ntfs/dir.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/fs/ntfs/fs.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/fs/ntfs/inode.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/fs/ntfs/super.c.rej
/usr/src/linux/kernel/fork.c.rej

file or directory

You can laugh at me!! I tried to find a manual or FAQ about patching
although that was a fruitless effort. So, I had to go ahead without
sound knowledge of what I was doing. Can anyone please educate me how
to patch? I have four more patches to go and am now afraid of making
the situation worse. Also, please teach me how to recover this
stuation.
Many thanks in advance.
