STB nVIDIA Card and Open Linux 1.3

STB nVIDIA Card and Open Linux 1.3

Post by David Plaza » Mon, 21 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I've installed Caldera Open Linux 1.3 on a Dell Dimension XPS R450.
Everything is fine except the video display under KDE....the resolution
is great, but I'm just getting a small part of the screen used and
rather large fonts when using the generic SVGA settings. The monitor
controls will not correct it.

Open Linux 1.3 doesn't support my video card, which is an STB nVIDIA TNT
16MB. Th monitor is a Dell Model D1025TM (Ultrascan 100HS). I wondered
if anyone had found video card, etc...settings that will work for this
combination of hardware.

Thanks!

Sounds like you have the EXACT same machine I just got.

Make sure you have the latest XFree86 servers, I think it's 3.3.3.1.
Just go to their site, www.xfree86.org, and check it out. Download the
SVGA and VGA files, along with the XF86Setup and the 75 and 100 dpi
fonts. I think that'll do it.

Then run XF86Setup and you can select your card; although it's called
STB nVIDIA 128 (which I think is the same as the card we have.)

Good luck. It works for me.

1. STB nVIDIA TNT video card isn't recognized

Hello, people!

Apologies in advance if this post is not in the right ng(s).
I recently purchased a Dell XPS R50, which has an STB nVIDIA TNT video
card for use at home. I installed  Solaris 7 on this new machine.
However, I have only been able to configure the X server to be in
16-colors, 800x600 "VGA" mode.

A search of DejaNews did not turn up any answers, only a number of
questions; also, Sun has not provided the sort of information I need.

Sooo, what needs to be done to get Solaris x86 to recognize this card as
what it is, not a plain-vailla VGA card? Do I have to get another video
card?
