You should have been asked during the configuration phase when preparing
the kernel source ('make config') to be compiled. If the HPFS drivers were
compiled into the kernel you'll need to re-compile your kernel, and remember
to include HPFS compatibility during kernel configuration. I used to run
kernel version 1.2.8 and I could mount my two HPFS partitions, so I know it's
not due to a problem in that particular kernel version.
