You should have been asked during the configuration phase when preparing
the kernel source ('make config') to be compiled.  If the HPFS drivers were
compiled into the kernel you'll need to re-compile your kernel, and remember
to include HPFS compatibility during kernel configuration.  I used to run
kernel version 1.2.8 and I could mount my two HPFS partitions, so I know it's
not due to a problem in that particular kernel version.

1. HPFS problem

Hello.  I installed Linux finally, but have a serious problem now.  In
the installation process, I tried to make Linux recognize HPFS partitions.
I thought I succeeded in doing it, but after rebooting my computer, Linux
does not recognize HPFS partitions.  It tries to mount those partitions in
the booting process, but says that the kernel does not support HPFS file
system.  I think that is inconsistent with the document for Linux, since
it explicitly says that Linux can recognize HPFS for read-only.

Do I have to find some new source code for the kernel to make Linux
recognize HPFS partitions? Or is there a cheap way to achieve my goal?

The version of the kernel for my Linux is 1.2.8.

Thank you, in advance.
