How do you register for staroffice 5.0 in order to get a key for the setup.
I went to there site www.stardivision.com but could not find anywhere to
register for this product. There was only a download for 5.1.

Maybe somebody can point me in the right direction.

Thank you

Hi,

I have installed staroffice 5.1 on a redhat 6.0 system.  when logged in
as root I can run staroffice just fine.  But when I log in as a user, I
type soffice and the disk grinds for a minute, but nothing ever comes
up, and the soffice process exits without any messages (just bash saying
that soffice exited).

Thanks,

Kevin,

I am just now getting ready to install StarOffice. I thought the
installation instructions said to install as a normal user, although I
could be wrong. It sounds like a permissions thing if you installed as
"root".

if installed as root  a user can't start it without permissions being set
the best way is to install is as a user (I installed as user) then you can
run as user or root so un-install it and re-install ~~save any work first
:o)

to un-install delete the /Office51 directory and all its sub directories
then you must remove the file      .sversionrc   (note the leading point)
from your system it should be in the home directory of all the users (
/root  in your case ) but do a
search for all copies   it is not in the Office51 directory so it is not
removed when you delete that directory

hope this helps

Kevin,

Keith is correct. I just installed StarOffice 5.1 (Single User) when
logged on as myself, not "root", on a RH 6.0 box. Works fine except for
the fact that I forgot to install the Java runtime stuff first...:-)

Is it possible to do a multi-user install with the license that is provided
with free downloads?

Yes.  This is from memory, from the SO5.1 documentation.
As root, run
./setup /net.
and configure the entire program.
Then, as each individual user, run ./setup from the directory where you
_installed_ (not downloaded and untarred) SO5.1, and choose workstation install
(uses an additional 2 MB, not the 180~ for the whole install.)
Hope this helps; if not, RTFM.

David,

Thanks.  I read that in the README, but there was some ambiguous wording regarding
the licensing.  Thanks for the info.

1. StarOffice & AnswerBook won't work after installing Netscape

Hi all. :-)

I am new to Solaris.
My installation of the x86 Solaris 7 was a VERY smooth ride. :-)

After I installed the OS, I installed the AnswerBook which was on the
Solaris Doc CD.
I then install the StarOffice 5.0

Every thing is working so far, but I wanted to use Netscape to view the
AnswerBook, so I installed the Netscape Communicator 4.5 (via the
WebStart). After I restarted the computer, and...

BOOM!!!

The AnswerBook doesn't work now (can't load it some how, I think). Also
my StarOffice couldn't start as well. But Netscape works good.

So I uninstalled the Netscape, and everything back to normal (they all
worked again). :-)

I *can* live without Netscape, but since I used to it, and want to keep
using it. I'm looking for a way to make Netscape work *peacefully* with
StarOffice 5.0 and AnswerBook under Solaris 7. Could anyone please,
please help me?

Thank you soo much!

Edward
